Step 1 — Assessment. We assess the ceiling condition, note any existing stains or damage, and determine whether asbestos testing is needed (see below). You get a written estimate before anything starts.
Step 2 — Asbestos assessment. Popcorn ceiling texture applied before approximately 1980 may contain asbestos. This is not rare in older Winnipeg homes — it was a common additive. Before removal, we recommend testing if the home was built prior to 1980. We'll advise on this during the estimate. If asbestos is present, removal requires a licensed abatement contractor — we'll tell you this clearly rather than proceeding.

Step 6 — Ceiling paint. Two coats of ceiling paint — flat white is standard, though other finishes are available. The result is a smooth, uniform ceiling that reflects light evenly.
DIY popcorn ceiling removal is one of those projects that looks manageable until you're in the middle of it. The mess is significant. Getting the texture off without damaging the drywall underneath takes technique.
